  • Expanded knowledge on orthopedic shoulders, hip, & knee arthroscopy, and hip & knee arthroplasty surgical techniques.

  • Acquired new knowledge regarding inspection of x-rays, MRIs, and point-of-care ultrasound.

  • Discussed diagnosis and treatment plans with the physicians, and rounded on post-op patients.

  • Attended CME event, "Orthopedics for the Primary Care Physician, New Technology for Knees and Hips".

  • Gained a greater understanding of the urgent care setting and atmosphere.

  • Introduced to the most common patient presentations and patient requests.

  • Observed a rapid stress test, auscultated wheezing breath sounds, observed mass excision for biopsy testing.

  • Learned some of the stipulations required by insurance companies for coverage of specific tests, and the function of the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS).

  • Shadowed Michael D. Sarap, M.D. in his General Surgery practice, and Clifford B. Maximo, M.D. in his Urology practice.

  • Observed a laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis, flexible upper GI endoscopies, colonoscopies, skin cancer removal, and numerous kidney and gall stone removals.

  • Rounded on pre- and post-op patients.

  • Discussed at length treatment options for a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient and post-op bowel obstructive patient with lymphoma.
